Model Design

Ripple consists of three components: Geo, Hab, and Pop. The Geo component estimates channel and flow properties from digital elevation data and from hydraulic geometry relationships, and for each life stage Hab calculates carrying capacity per reach throughout the watershed, and Pop uses various stock-recruitment models to calculate fish densities.

The model exploits the ESRI ArcMap interface, but the essential code is platform independent. Default parameter values are provided such that the only data necessary to use the model are channel slope and drainage area for each arc in the channel network.
